well basically, I've heard pretty good things about instant ocean mix, so I'm going to go for it. unfortunately, my lfs, doesn't sell it... so i was going to order of the dangerousness amazon but got into a thinker :( .... basically theres two for sale, my fish tank is 10g by the way

^that one is 50 gallons worth, so it would last me a while, but no one has reviewed it, and at that price i would almost consider it unrealistic.

^ this one is 10g and a more realistic price. plus it has reviews so i know its legit.

should i gamble and go for the 50g or play it cool and get the tens.

thoughts?

a 20lb bag is about 19.99 at an lfs.. i'm pretty sure it does 50 gals so that online price sounds ok. You can buy a 200gal box for around $46. I've bought em as low as $38. Skip the 10gal and go right for the 40 breeder. ;)

I started with IO, then moved to IO reef crystals, mixing with RO/DI water.. I basically use that because that is what is available here.. but that is about what the local price is..

if I'm going for any online its amazon only.

Why? foster smith is a GREAT company and usually their prices are cheaper, and they're reliable.

Petco is cheap as well. I paid $17 for the 50gal mix bag. Shipping was $2.

OP- why are you so worried about the reviews? IO is IO unless its Reef Crystals. Buy the big bag for future water changes. I'm not even sure why you made this thread. Lol

Generic chain pet stores almost always have IO, in my experience. Do you have a Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, or something like that near you?

When I opened this thread I thought oh boy someone got a bad batch of salt and killed their tank.

If you're "suspicious" of the salt why would you consider it?!

Instant Ocean salt is Instant Ocean salt. In the original post you were debating buying Instant Ocean salt or not based on which packaging had reviews?

There are tens of legit online retailers. And if you like Amazon so much subscribe to Prime and get free shipping.

good luck with that  bet that 10 gallon will last you a few months if you're really into the hobby...

and be willing to take a little advice man. the people on here are pretty helpful. why on earth would you pay ~$30 for a shipped 3lb bag when you could get a box from dr. foster & smiths for ~$50 shipped. You'll have enough salt in that 3lb back to last you a week lol.

amazon's good and all but be open to suggestions...especially if you ask for them
