TheWAND
Nice pictures. I feel like the last one could have the exposure pushed up a little. Here's a little I did in LR with a couple button clicks. Not too happy with it myself, but I really like flower shots that are a little brighter. All i did was push up the exposure a little and clip the blacks a little. It came out a little grainy from working with a JPEG instead of a RAW file, but it gets my general idea across. The brighter look almost gives it a dreamy feel. Link to comment
Joe'sInTheHouse
Funny - I was actually playing around with the exposure a bit and I took some similar photos with a higher exposure and found them too bright! But yeah I know what you mean about the dreamy feel. Also I would shoot in RAW, but I don't have any RAW conversion software but I will definitely look at getting it when I get my new camera Here's a couple of other shots I took using a higher exposure. http://imageshack.us/a/img12/3676/canoneos400d108.jpg'> http://imageshack.us/a/img339/5748/canoneos400d110.jpg'> Link to comment
Zer0
Regarding reefs, these are my two favorite pictures. Very, very nice. Regarding your other random photos, there's too many I like! You take fantastic photos! Do you know what the names of those zoas those are? Link to comment
Joe'sInTheHouse
Thanks so much! I'm not quite sure what those zoanthids are sorry. They were in a large display tank at a specialist reef shop. Next time I go there I will ask the store manager what they are. Link to comment
LarryMoeCurly
You are quite good at taking photos of random stuff. I admire your skill. BTW, when it comes to photography, what plays a bigger role in a good photo, skill or equipment? I assume skill; but then again, can a great photo be taken with bad equipment? Link to comment
Joe'sInTheHouse
Thanks I think skill is most important, but it does help to have decent quality equipment A good photo can be taken using very basic equipment, but it depends on your definition of what looks good or not. For example, I probably wouldn't be able to take a good macro using bad equipment - a DSLR or a decent point-and-shoot with a good lens (like my Sony DSC-H3 which has a built-in Ziess lens) is best for that sort of thing. But I might be able to take a nice abstract photo using different point sources of light and blurring with a cheaper camera, if you're into the artsy kind of stuff, and because its abstract then the image quality from a more basic camera isn't as important. But if you don't really like abstract photos and prefer a nice, sharp macro or landscape, then it is better to invest a bit more in good equipment. Link to comment

Joe'sInTheHouse
Thank you Here's a shot from last week. I borrowed my friend's speedlight and used a fast shutter speed, and he dropped strawberries into the glass to create the splash. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get any shots with the strawberry in the frame, but I tried again a couple of days later using a shallow glass and got some really nice photos but I have yet to process them. I've started shooting in RAW now, because I realized that the disk that came with the camera has RAW conversion software on it. It's called "Digital Photo Professional". It is absolutely abysmal and there is nothing professional about it! Luckily the computers at college have Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended, so I converted and edited the image using Camera RAW 7 which produced a more than satisfying result. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joes-in-the-house/8483552709/'> Thanks for looking everyone!
