MeepNand
Wasn't sure where to post this, but I found an article somewhere (maybe in reefkeeping magazine?) that there was a method of reefing completely different than the Berlin method. It used no sand, no LR, no skimmer, and no flow. Instead, it used a old, cheap internal filter for flow + filtration, a par38 bulb, and a 50 watt theo heater. The bottom of the tank was nearly COVERED in LPS. The writer of the article said they only did a 90-100% water change once every two months and dosed no supplements, but the fact that he used bionic reef salt made a big difference in his opinion because of the extra nutrients it had. Would this be a sort of "artificial biotope"? Link to comment
matt frizz
I think i saw this article also. The backing was styrofoam I believe and it didn't look like rock at first but after it was established all of the styrofoam got coated with coralline and ended up being almost like live rock. The point about 90-100% waterchanges rings a bell too. It was a cool idea. Link to comment
