pismo_reefer
It's attached to the AC20 intake, and acts as a Surface Skimmer.... Keeps the crud off the surface of the water, a big problem in lower flow environments, like picos. Link to comment
Mustang Boy
aahh makes sense the tank looks good by the way Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Thx MB! always appreciate the comments... Here's a pic of the Surface Skimming action... The sponge will be replaced w/ Chemipure in a few days. The Thermometer is off by 3*F.... just so you know Link to comment

badfish816
i've been wanting to do the same surface skimmer for awhile. my buddy uses 5 of the coralife temp gauges and averages them to get an idea of what his tank is. Link to comment

That way it can still pull water, even if the level is lower than the skimmer tube. Link to comment
brandon429
what a cool mod on that filter pismo!! i would have guessed too much air would get in and cavitate the pump but obviously not. this is probably the coolest experimentation subforum out there, you guys have neat ideas all the dang time Link to comment
pismo_reefer
hey brandon, thx for the compliment.... I can't lie tho... I got the idea from this>> http://www.jlaquatics.com/images/filters/h...mmer_aclear.jpg Link to comment

spanko
Gotta hide the pipe somehow. Detracts from the tank IMO. Would be a little better if the two 90's were just cemented together without the tube in between them. Link to comment
expensive_hobby
you could cut that little section of straight pipe short enough to fit only inside the 90's Link to comment
