That's possibly the prettiest murder of a star that I've ever seen.

Not that Ive seen a lot... or anything...

Best of luck with it/them. Amazingly lovely creatures. So tiny!

Just keep up on the water quality (the problem with keeping harlequins in such a small volume of water is the decomposing starfish can rock your nitrate leves).

Keep us updated!

birdman204,

I have two hello light lamps.(13W)...

I will make the canopy myself.

If possible, it will set in the aquarium.

just thinking...

The star is just a piece.

I have get it in shop.

skylsdale,

I know that...

So after one night, I take out the star's dust immediatly...

I will give the star to shrimp one time by month.

Maybe I think it's ok?!?!?!

(sorry poor english)

Hi juliet,

One piece of starfish once a month and your shrimp will starve to death... They eat almost continuosly and they go on with the starfish they attack till it is finished.

It's better if you give them a little piece every day. I have no direct experience but for what I read they can eat also frozen starfish so you can buy one, divide it in many pieces and freeze all of them. Then feed your shrimp with a small piece, slowly defrozen, every day.

Maybe they need a little time to get accustomed to the dead food.

Try to search around but I'm pretty sure they will starve with 1 night a month of food

Good luck and keep us updated!

and Happy New Years All~ (sorry too late...)

I gave up to make the canopy by myself

because not enough my capavity, stuff, etc... --;

Finally, I bought the canopy,

and used an Aqua lux 50/50 13w.

It's "Mini light" canopy made in Korea.

Whoa, how did I miss this thread. Your tanks are the bee's knees. Where on earth did you get the red rock goby? I've never heard of them. It looks like a mini-hawkfish.

thanks caja, korbin

korbin,

that's really rock goby.

The seller told color is red.

and I think so.

I can't explain the color of rock goby in english.

maybe it's little black and much red...

and red rock goby has some green stripes on head part.

If red rock goby get stress, the color becomes more black closely.

You can check it in the my pic.

thank for your opinion...

and sorry poor my english...

You could buy tons of starfish and keep them in a separate tank. When the shrimp needs to be fed you could cut a leg off of one of the starfish and alternate starfish allowing them to regrow their legs. I think that this would be cheaper over time.

Both of your tanks look very, very good! :)

Just thought I would tell you incase you did not know, but your anemone crab (Lybia tesselata) is called an anemone crab because it carries around it's own little anemones....not like the filter-feeding anemone crab (Neopetrolisthes maculatus or Neopetrolisthes oshimai) that lives in large anemones. That is why it doesn't associate with the large anemone you placed into your little tank. Also, I don't think there is enough lighting to keep that anemone healthy in your little tank, so you should probably put it back into your larger tank. :)

Otherwise, I really like both of your setups, especially the red rock goby...I wish we could get them here in the U.S. :)

Oh, and your English is very good, MUCH better than my Korean! (since I have NO idea how to speak Korean)

;)

um, im sorry, not true, you might be right about the anemone crab, but thats a boxing crab, it swings around its anemones that it caries around with him and the food sticks to the anemones and the crab picks the food off.

Link to comment

She is calling it an "anemone crab" and I don't want to confuse her since I don't believe that English is her first language, so had I referred to it as a boxer crab, she might not have known what I was talking about. Regardless, it isn't a commensal on larger anemones and that's why she put that anemone into her little tank, where I don't believe it has enough light. It's only semantics and that's why I included the latin name for both crabs so she, and anyone else that wants to, can look it up for themselves.
