johnmaloney
Got an ugly tank that is marred by nuisance algae? We want to see it! Post your pictures here, and we will choose the ugliest tank to us. The "winner" will receive a custom crew from us, (or a refund on a recently purchased custom crew), and be given step by step instructions on how to get their tank clean. Everybody who participates will be given a 25% discount. Show us how bad it can get! Note: By submitting a photo, or a link to a photo, you confirm that you are both the owner of the photo and the tank. By posting the photo, or linking to it you give us the right to use the photo on the site. You have the choice whether to remain anonymous or be credited for the photo. If you wish to be credited for the photo, please place your name on the actual photo itself. Link to comment

johnmaloney
current pictures only please - no shipping. It ain't the best coryd, but it isn't the worst. On 3reef we already got a guy whose diatoms are so thick they are layered on top of each other making them look fuzzy. It is the most amazing diatom bloom I ever saw. I have seen your tank though dahlia...it is a shoe in now, post away! hah! got you. Link to comment
OB1
Oh boy Now this is a contest. You guys may as well quit now Too bad I just cleaned it up and removed about a pound of hair algae. Full tank shot. 20-long with 65watt 50/50, HOB filter, Dead Coral Skeletons and Petco man-made live rock. Mean damsel, tons of Aiptasia, A few Majano Nems, Red Bubble Algae, Green Hair Algae, Red and Green Macro Purple Lobster peeking out. My giant Emerald Crab wouldn't come out for a the pics. The funny part is I sort of like it this way. I feel like I can put just about anything in this tank. Link to comment
showjyr
I don't know if it's the ugliest but I sure am overrun with different types of algae and it does look BAD. From what i can see there is a ton of valonia, bryopsis, green hair, cotton candy hair(?), and some type of pinkish red bubble alage. Help..... Link to comment

OB1: are those AIPTASIA?!?! or something else? because those are the GODZILLA of aiptasia Yes they are AIPTASIA. I keep waiting for one to eat that damsel but no luck yet If you feed them they just keep growing. With all that so called ugly stuff in there this tank is amazingly stable. I've let it go for 2-months without a water change. I toss in a big chunks of food for the lobster and crab and things just stay the same. It's sort of like a show sump Link to comment
Burks
No coral in it but I just stopped paying attention to the tank. Top offs are about all I do. There's a big Margarita snail living in there, someplace. He comes out every so often. Link to comment
soundman
Here you go.....I just took this pic for your contest: What do you think? Link to comment
johnmaloney
wow. a lot of good contestants in there. This is going to be a tough contest. I will keep it open for awhile trying to get some more contestants in, (a lot have been posting on the other sites too), and then I will combine them on my site to start the judging. Green Bubble Algae looks cool in close up pictures, but in person it well, looks like it may have a shot at winning the contest. By the way the discount code is "ugly", in the comments section give username and maybe even a link to the picture so we can keep you tracked for the prize. Link to comment

We will be letting people enter for awhile, maybe you will get lucky and it will grow back quickly. With that said the way the tank is now there is no way you will this contest. I think I will be doing category prizes. But we sponsor a lot of sites, so we can't do that. They aren't all nanos. Link to comment
Smurf
Ohhh, I see! Let John do his thing! It's probably hard enough to be judging this contest let alone he's supplying the prizes. Lol Early morning bump!! Link to comment
StevieT
Here is mine, the very first tank that I started in SW. No algae but it will give a few a laugh. Link to comment

Ya, After looking at some of the pics of others mine is way to clean. I thought maybe my giant Aiptasia garden might shoe me in, but I can see that red slime and brown algae are really the ugly ones. Here is mine, the very first tank that I started in SW. No algae but it will give a few a laugh. You should sell this pic to Petco. They would proudly display that pic as a selling tool.
