40g custom 1/2" rimless acrylic cube

I just recieved my custom 40g acyrlic cube. Its dimensions are 24x24x15. Its made of 1/2" acrylic. The cube has a piece of black acrylic that forms a coast-coast (caflo) overflow with 2 3/4" returns. And a 2" drain. It is rimless open top.

For the return pump i will be using a quiet-one 6000. Rated at 1506gph at 0 head. So this should be enough flow for now. The return plumbing will be 1/2 inch and then turn into 3/4" locline with flare nozzles.

For lighting i will be using one of my 2 400W Reefstar HQI set-ups. Will not be putting it in a canopy.

Will be using a 20g long for the sump and will be going skimmer shopping soon!

FYI: quite one pumps are very strong and don't have much head loss. I have the 2200 (562gphis) and i am running it at 1" pvc with 4' of pvc, 4 elbow, and a union, it overflows my 27g with a 1" drain. I need to go and get a ball valve.

Anyway cool tank, i like the big rock :D

Great looking tank!

One question though: How are you going to get a 30" 20gal long to fit under a stand for a 24" tank? Looking at the pics I don't think you are going to have enough room.

ya i just measured last night. Going either with a custom sump or only other option is a 15g Tall. Which would hardly fit my skimmer that i am planning on using.

Think i should add one more return with this pump? Think it will be too powerfull? especially if i am going to be going from its 1" outlet down to a 1/2" plumbing?

i am re-staining the stand tonite. "Ebony" and then will get to plumbing the tank after a "quick dry" coat of clear coat.

just use a 20H for a sump and if your using an insump skimming then it should fit and if your not you got some room in the back part. just an idea.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully my tank will be able to stand it. I am going from the 1" outlet-1/2" plumbing-dual 3/4" loc-line returns with flare nozzles. This pump really flows a lot of water!!

A guy from KC, MO name Scott it was originally $600.00

I was just over at his house on Sat and he said he can't get a break with the demand. His stuff is top notch. I've used his skimmers and now his calcium reactors that he makes. He also made me a sump that you can see pics of in my build thread.

Yes my tank is only 24" wide and the canopy houses 2 36" Actinic URI VHO's. Planning on upgrading soon to a 36" tank 36x24x24 to be exact. So i figured why build 2 canopies. I will also then add my other Reefstar Pendant.

For now i will be using this for my new cube shown above. These pics are before it has been stained "Ebony"

Just need to put a couple coats polyurethane on it and we are ready to put the cube back on and plumb her up!

Are you going to use your existing cube for a sump when you get the new tank?

No this tank will be a carpet/clown tank. Prolly try to get 2 small carpets in there blue and green, untill they get too big and will have to move one to the upgraded tank.

Tho i do plan on plumbing the two together.

yes this is just one of the 400W reefstars. Way more than enough for this tank! It sits about 14" off of the water. Thanks for the compliment!
