Kylebeano
Got some shots of the goby dwellers. I'm in the process of making a clear mesh lid for the tank, just waiting for the piece of 1/4" netting from ebay. My 6 - line wrasse jumped while at was at work :/ http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Kylebeano/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140919_152918_zps971246d5.jpg.html'> http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Kylebeano/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140919_152855_zpsfaa3578d.jpg.html'> Oh, and my gf finishing her manicure from one of the tanks now resident feeder shrimp. Hoping they will breed and all the eggs/larva/etc will provide food for fish and coral. http://s30.photobucket.com/user/Kylebeano/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140906_195356_zpsc14097da.jpg.html'> Link to comment
Kylebeano
Yashas finally paired up! Have a screen made now for a lid, just trying to figure out best mounting option. Also, anyone know what kind of creature is on my paly plug below, appears to be some kind of colonial sponge or tunicate? Link to comment
Kylebeano
Still finding more Medusa worms! Pulled two more out tonight to put in the worm pico. Here are some smaller ones I was able to get a pic of that were out a few mornings ago. Link to comment
Kylebeano
Tank is going along well, some macro algae growing better than others, lost the large fern calupra. Corals are growing well and colors are great. I've also added some new residents, a blenny, wrasse, and goby. Can anyone identify this blue/green algae growing in my purple algae? It's very quick growing, and invasive, it is sprouting up all over the tank and I take out large quantities with every water change. I believe it is what was hosting all those damn Medusa worms, as I haven't seen as many since I've eradicated the huge clusters of this blue/green algae. Link to comment
Kylebeano
The tank is looking pretty good recently, changed the T5 bulbs to blue+, actinic, aquablue, blue+, also raised the fixture about 6". Corals are responding well, opening up better, colors not as washed. Could have used a PAR meter when I set everything up, I think the light was just putting out too much, too close to the water. The feeder shrimp which ive had for a long while now (started off almost completely clear), have developed some cool coloring, black patterning, and some have bright orange joints/spots. Still havent noticed if they breed at all, that's my ultimate goal for them to feed the tank. But so far, the feeders have become the fedees (getting some pretty good nutrition)? Link to comment
Kylebeano
Always something going wrong with this hobby. I added sand from a local breaking down their tank to my refugium (a few inches) and a few days later noticed white spots on most of my fish. I didn't think much of it, thought my tank was in good enough health and the fish could kick it themselves, but then a couple months later the fish looked terrible, just covered in ich. Lost a few before I could get a hospital tank set up in time. Big regrets not treating them immediately from the first signs months prior. Anyways, treated with all the BS over the counter herbal craps and hypo at .008 in the KBVJ regional medical tank (also funded by my girlfriend) for 12 weeks, and now have returned the surviving fish to display. Pods really exploded in the display with lack of fish, So I got a mandarin and ruby dragonette. Coral colors and growth have been great. Sold off the bulk of my space monsters and candy apple red polyps to fund some other purchases. I'm overall pleased with how the tank is doing, except the disease. Enough essay, pictures! Kylebeano
Mr Hawkins has been doing great, even though it's exposed all the time during water changes Happy as a clam Barnacles are new, they look out of place A good view of the light reflected, from back to front; Cree RB bar, blue+, coral+, orbit, actinic, blue+ Link to comment
Kylebeano
And now crappy shots through the glass. Don't know why the colors always look so washed out in the photos: View from the power head side Clam isle LPS isle All looking so much better after raising the lights a foot And nothing in focus Non-powerhead side These shrooms though Yasha's dwelling New scooter with rainsford glaring New blenny has more algae than he ever though possible Link to comment

Kylebeano
Looks good! You need to update more often. Thank you, Its just been a while since ive spent time with the tank taking pictures. I grabbed my fiance's point and shoot and took some better pics today, still working on a good FTS though. Also, I keep the alge growing on the back wall as it homes tons of pods, they actually weave little tunnels throughout it, so I see it as a part of the system now and not so ugly. I also used a metrokat trick and got my purple torch on the back wall to fill in some space, it was being shielded by the calupera grove previously. Link to comment
plainrt
Oh wow very pretty tank. Love mixed reefs Link to comment
markalot
Love the way it looks, very healthy and natural! Link to comment
Kylebeano
Thanks ya'll, its progressing in a good direction. The calupera needs some trimming, im always pulling handfulls out and afraid im taking out tons of pods and baby shrimp with it. Link to comment
Kylebeano
Bought a mate for the female b/w clownfish a few days ago, he is doing really well! Just a regular snowflake, but compliments her well, no fighting, only some dancing going on. Also got in an order from saltcritters, would def recommend them, and order again. Will snap some pictures when I have days off. Link to comment
Kylebeano
My LFS will hopefully get in a mate for my yasha so it can stop thinking that the huge bristle worm living with the pistol and it is a suitable replacement... Next time I have the pumps off and im feeding ill try to get a picture of those three weirdos outside their den. Picture of the new clown, so far the best picture I could get of him was early in a day when only the LEDs were on: A beam of sunlight was coming through our skylights the other day (during a break in thunderstorms finally), and hit the clam, which showed an awesome streak of green/turquoise ive never seen on it before, was pretty neat so I attempted a picture of it: And some other various shots: top Ds: FTS: Link to comment
justinfox
Nice! PS: I have those shrimp in my tank too (I collected them myself from rock pools) and exactly!!!! They have really coloured up and have great markings now. They are damn aggressive though. One of them is a lot bigger than the others and it often chases the other 3, even pulling off an arm of one of the smaller ones as well as snipping off feelers off another. He's also chasing after my new baby clowns when the clowns get close to him. Link to comment

The one pictures has actually been missing for a bit, it used to actually swim around quite a bit. Was an active shrimp, never saw aggression. Since you collected them, did you see how big they might get? Link to comment
justinfox
Yeah they totally swim around a LOT! Always out unlike many shrimp for sale, and they're always all over my hands when they're in the tank. My big guy is about 5.5cm big now but I've seen a monster one in a rock pool at about 7cm or so. Link to comment
Kylebeano
Yours are much more mature and large than mine, very cool speckling. Maybe theyre like a highlander shrimp, there can only be one... Link to comment
Kylebeano
Got a piece of real deal OG Oregon tort today, with strawberry shortcake, a new delicate photosynthetic gorg, some cloves for the overflow box, and a red feather macro. Lights were out by the time I got everything glued and situated. I havnt been as excited about a new coral for a while, and it was really cheap from a local reefer Link to comment
Kylebeano
Pictures taken with my phone, so a bit washed out. Little tort right in the middle, I will end up moving some things around to accomodate these new SPS SSC to right of hawkin's Link to comment
Kylebeano
So I did end up moving some of the SPS around to accomodate the new additions, still not sure if I will keep the OT there, or move it over a bit more. Otherwise, tank is chukking along, colors are great (hard to capture), fish are doing really well (chromis just looks like shit, eats/swims/interacts like a champ), and I finally gave the calupera grove a crop top (will def be doing this more often). New delicate gorg finally opened up and looking good, colony growth into the fans aparantly, so I mounted it upsidedown from the return: New spot for strawberry shortcake: OT getting better polyp extension: Flame algae is really taking off, starting to hide the blenny's barnacle cluster: Link to comment
Kylebeano
Moved to a new house, tank was of course the most stressful and difficult part of moving. Dont think ive lost anything, some corals were chipped or knocked loose, but for the most part I think everything did well. A ballast went out on the light, took me a few weeks to get it repaired, so corals should start looking better in the next couple months. Still indecisive about just completely upgrading lights (to jedimaster's ati fixture), or see how this thing holds out. Anyway, here are some crappy cell phone picture updates: Link to comment
