it might be fine now, but who knows how well that's going to work in ~6 months. i wouldn't take any chances. good luck

i agree...it was just an idea but probably not going to implement it.

can you take the cap off or is it glued down?

The cap comes off so you can access light for changing. It's very water tight but I'm not going to bet the life of tank inhabitants on it.
