5gal w/Regal Tang

MAQUARIUM
 Share

This is my 5gal nano-reef. There I have a feather duster, one anemone, one three stripes damsel, one clown fish and one 6 month old nano reef grown regal tang (1 ½ in). I have waited 6 month to put this post and the regal tang hasn’t grown any more. So if you are one that says that you can’t put a regal tang in a nano reef, you're wrong...

Just to let you guys know, not one fish in there will get a foot long i doubt even one more inch. Its the same in ball pythons, i had one in a 20 gallon and he didt get any bigger until i put him in a 115 gallon tank, and know 3 months later he is 2 feet biger. so let off this dude you wining b%$#hes! damn but still even if the tank didt have that tang it stills got a fake aneome and crappy LR that cost topps 2.99 a pond and the looks of that tank it looks brand new so most of the fish will die during the cycle anyway (well mabey not the damsel)

Hey Hannahlyn: the anemone is a carribean pink-tip...they are all over the place down south by florida/bahamas. If u ever dive..they are about as common as seeing a damsel.

Yes leave him alone, I have a great white shark in my saltwater pond and he is doing fine, well maybe not but It's for my pleasure and I enjoy it.

BTW p.d.= post data, used in most countries (PR is not a country but the speak spanish) instead of p.s.

Lilreef, no one "got told" by your childish comments so quit trying to act tough on the internet.

If you kids refuse to learn proper husbandry and care of your tanks and the livestock within, then find somewhere else to spew your ignorance. This site is all about the proper care for nano-reefs, and that includes restraint in your selection of corals and fish properly sized for these smaller tanks.

The only reason a tang or similar fish should be in a nano is if they're juvies who will be moved into a bigger tank as they grow.

This is the worst bunch of posts I have ever seen.

And the tank takes the piss. That regal tang SHOULDNT be in a tank that size, and why the hell dont you realise it? It is pathetic that people ignore such blatently obvious advice and do exactly as they please rather than what is good for the fish.

ya know what people, this is right now a cool tank, yes, i do believe he should take the tang out soon, but ya know what, if it has been up for six months *aplauds* that is a nice tank.

the dude pays money for these fish I assume and he doesn't want advice but clearly wants to rile those concerned. He payed for the fish so let him see how it turns out. For those who claim that this site is for those who practice good husbandry...let me ask all the dead fish from your past if they feel the same way. Don't go overboard on something that is obvious, he doesn't want to hear it because if he did he wouldn't have a tang in a 5 gal tank in the first place. Hopefully he changes with experience but calm down and save all that fire on the parents of abused children or something.

That tank is NOT 6 months old in that pic! Look at the sand bed, its BRAND new! The rock has absolutely NO coraline, and the rocks still have the white look to them, like they just came out of a LFS rock vat. Even without Ca/Alk supplements, regular water changes would still let a minimal amount of coraline grow. And yes, that sh!tty looking fake anemone is FAKE.

I would love to see what this ignorant, inhumane little prick's tank looks like now (what like 7 months its been since the pic was posted?).

I would jst like 2 support the author. I have successfully kept 2 nano and am currently running 2 full reef setups and i am only 15. I have accomplished this through support of other aquarists. I find the people on here that have commented in the main to be so pretentious. Y not make suggestions to help and offer advice instead of shooting him down. If all you self confessed experts were such good aquarists, u wud kno the neccessity to share information and build up each others knowledge. I mean wtf is a comment like "your tank is ugly", my 5 yr old brother could make that observation, y not suggest the use ov more live rock etc.

yeah get the tang out dude and as for the statement you made about the clownfish in a 90 gal. and not being happy is not true at all in the wild they dont go no more then a few yards from thier anemone.if not anything else hope you have a strong current he can swim against at least he can get some kind of work out.

You know, I've been watching post after post, about setup, maintenance and "proper fish keeping". I've got to tell you, I'm a little scared to ask a question let alone make a mistake. I really hope you guys in this forum are a little kinder to me then I've read in "this" forum and in future posts..... I want to start a nano cube, but I thought that for fish and reef success one must go no smaller than a 29 or 30 gal tank. Can someone give me atleast an aerial map of how it should be done. Dare I ask, facts not emotion.....

Thanks in advance

Arty
