First full tank shot I've posted here :)

The tank is about 6 months old+ and my first reef tank. As you can see I am having a hair algae problem! (this is actually BETTER than it was) :(

There is a 5 gallon aquafuge hanging on the back there.

Have you tried dosing your magnesium to a higher level? It really helped with my problem but I also got hold of it before it took off lol

I actually am doing that now with Kent Marine stuff. I tested my water for mag (for the first time) before I started dosing and it was at only like 1000 PPM! I've been dosing for a week or so now and it is back up to normal levels around 1300. But I'm almost through with the entire 16 oz bottle or so and it's no where near 1600+ like they say to "over"dose.

How fast (as in how much per day) did you add to your tank when you were overdosing? Thanks :)

I am getting a 50g soon and was having somewhat high nitrates, never zero, so I upgraded the protein skimmer prematurely for a little test I guess.

I regularly dose the aquarium and I'm aware it can take out key elements. Is there any other problem? I've always heard "get the BIGGEST you can" ;)

I do have a high bioload, no?

Oh and forgot to mention the back HOB filter in the fuge has only chemi-pure in it. The one of the left has purigin on top of a bit of filter floss. I think it would be OK (with the big skimmer now) to remove that filter, and maybe run it in the back one with the chemi-pure passively in the fuge. It would at least save me some wires going everywhere and clear up the display tank.

Too much light on it will do it. Spot lighting in the tank might wanna get the light higher to light the hole tank
