So cool! Although how do you keep the xenia in check? 2 years the xenia should have taken over the tank.

Peace To All,

Sancho, thanks for your comment. Xenia, from what I noticed in this Vase, will not grow in certain parts of the Vase. They can get "out of control" but I just trim them with scissors. Like a hair cut. It's recently that I've allowed them to venture to other parts of the Vase. As you can see, they're going wild on the glass. I frag them, scrape them off corals if they ever get attached, which is rarely.Certain corals control their growth rate and patterns, depending on what coral is next to them. When I had the Pavona in 2013, Xenia would never grow towards the Pavona. I removed the Pavona, and the Xenia are now on the front wall. They also serve as a barrier between corals, so the stinging corals don't touch each other. Almost like a fence.

So should the Xenia's have taken over? Of course, if I didn't do the maintenance on them. Hope this helps.

Peace To All,

Thanks for your comment. As per the "Airline Tubing", Yes. That's it.. Just air from a Whisper Air Pump with a Control Dial. As per the "plastic clip", it's a piece of 1/4" tubing, cut in half, to keep the lid from opening with the air pressure that builds up int he Vase. Hope this helps. Any question or comments, let us know.

Hi,

I have been reading up on your posts as well as Brandon's. I'd like to start up a vase reef for my office. I'm wondering where you found that lid and if you have any advice when seeking suitable containers.

Hi,

Peace. Thanks for having a look and commenting. The Vase is a vintage, heavy glass vase, I purchased at a Thrift Shop. The cover was also purchased at the Thrifts, and it's from a 70's Tea Maker. I saw that the cover fit the Vase, so I purchase both items.

As per seeking a suitable container, I recommend a Vase like Brandon's, along with the garden shop, clear pot coasters, they sell at Walmart and other garden stores. I went against Brandon's recommended Vase type, only to see if the neck would matter and or necessary, in creating a Vase Reef. If you can find my Vase type, I recommend that too.

You can always get a fitted glass made for the Vase Reef. Cover is a MUST!! Keeps the dust and dirt away from your reef, and slows down the evaporation process, stabilizing the Vase Reef, creating a more stable reef.

Hope this helps.

Blessings To All.

Peace. Thanks for having a look and comment. So sorry for the delayed response. I didn't receive a notification on my cell and just found it on my Laptop. I'm using an ABI 12w 50/50 Blue White Par38 LED, sold on Amazon and eBay. Because they're LED's, you have to hang them at least 12" above the waterline. I have my at 13". If you put too close, you will Bleach Your Corals!!! Hope this helps. Blessings All.
