Thanks for your questions. First things first. As per vacation, before you decide on vacation, you have to have propler husbandry for your Vase Reef. Otherwise, you won't know what instructions to leave the person "Vase Watching". The Vase is an vintage item I purchased at the Thrifts, and it's 1.5 U.S. gallons. The lid is from a Tea Maker from the 70s and I just took the top off and used it on the Vase. The lid just sits on the inner rim of the Vase and is held securely by a piece of tubing. It's a snug fit.Fortunate for us, the lid fitted. I use Live Rocks and Live Sand. A few cured pieces with no buggers, nuisance algae, etc. Live sand was from my own system, but I would just purchase the live sand that comes in a bag. I use Instant Ocean Salt Mix. You can use either the plain or Reef Crystals, same company. The water to use can be Distilled or R.O. I've used both but use R.O. water most of the time, for topping off when the water evaporates, every 3-5 days, and for the Salt Mix. Hope this helps. You're doing your homework, so you get an A. Blessings To All. Quote Link to comment
