hello, very nice , i have a questions, need help ,i just set a 12 gal deluxe tank i was told to set a 4" dsb, i see in your pic's doesn't look like you have that much sand in it do i need that much sand, i haven't put lr rock in yet, if is too much please let me know so i can take some out.

I dont like a deep sand bed, so i dont use one. It really all depends on what you want, a lot of people these days are using no sand.

a $" sand bed is just fine. The idea of a DSB is to help process nitrates and provide a n environment for lots of worms and pods and bacteria and other things to live. There's a great paper on it here:

I've got a 4" sand bed and my nitrates consistently read 0. That alone makes it worthwhile to me.
