Day 4, 12gal NanoCube DX:

This is day 4 of my, self contained 12gal cube, 4lb of base rock,4lb of Live Rock, 2lb of red lava rock season in a live rock tank, Live Sand ¾” deep, 50wats of light, and 160gph pump.

This is my first try at reef tanks, any input can help me out

Step 1. Take fish out

Step 2. Take lava rock out

Step 3. Buy live rock to replace lava rock

Step 4. Wait a few weeks

Step 5. Buy snails/crabs

Step 7. Wait a few weeks

Step 6. Buy new fish

Step 8. Wait a few weeks

Step 9. Buy coral

I hope your fish make it to day 5. Tank should have cycled first before adding any livestock...then again, chromis are cheap to replace. Good luck, and welcome to the addiction known as "reefkeeping".

take the fish back to the store read up on cycling the tank and get a test kit good luck

If the lava rock that you purchased is from volcanic origins, it'll be very bad for your aquarium. It contains high amounts of heavy metals that will leach into your water over time.

 

If it's man made, it's probably okay... though I still wouldn't risk it.
