Look who I found

I haven't seen this guy in probably 6 months. I had figured he died a while ago. Then last night as a made one quick look at my tank before I went to bed I found him crawling around the front of the glass.

I have a question about your crab... I'm new to reef keeping. Is that a pom pom? Does he bother your corals or fish? I have a Pepermint shrimp and about 6 small hermits. Looking for another type of crab that won't bother my present CUC, corals or fish.

Thanks

Yeah, it is a Pom Pom, they are safe and shouldn't bother anything in your tank. I suppose it has the potential to sting coral with the little anemones in its claws, but they are so small that it wouldn't even make a difference.

I love pom pom's... mine comes out like super aggressively when I feed... If I put the baster anywhere near him he'll bust a cliffhanger move and jump toward it, trying to stick his little claws up there in a shrimp-grabbing frenzy...

This particular picture is different from most as it was a night time shot using the flash. Usually I don't use a flash.

Here is the camera data for this picture

Make: Canon

Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi

Shutter Speed: 1/60 second

Aperture: F/5.6

Focal Length: 55 mm

ISO Speed: 400

I was using an 18-55 canon IS lens, most of my more recent photos are with a 50mm prime lens shot at an ISO speed between 400 and 800 with shutter speeds usually in the 1/120+ area

It seems to be bigger, this is a picture on the day I got it, almost 1 year ago.

I have never heard or seen a Pom Pom crab. Beautiful and good job on the water quailty/tank husbandry! Any invert that I lose for months never turns up. You must be doing something very right. Did you get him at the LFS or mail order?
