cameron1 Posted January 13, 2010 i like the dual island are u gonna be doing sps lps or softies Quote Link to comment
Dani3d Posted January 13, 2010 I am not sure at this point but since I only have power compact 2 X 55 watts I will be limited to soft coral and LPS. Quote Link to comment
Dani3d Posted January 13, 2010 It's not very stable but it will hold I think. It's not glued and just rest on each other. But since those have lots of branches they sort of hang on each other like pieces of puzzle. Should I glue it? I am not too found of using super glue or chimical stuff. Quote Link to comment
GoBlue44 Posted January 13, 2010 i think you should put some apoxy on them, it makes the rock pretty stable, and it comes apart easily if you want to take it apart. Quote Link to comment
Dani3d Posted January 14, 2010 do I have to make it dry to put expoxy? If so how long do I have to keep the rock outside the water? Quote Link to comment
cameron1 Posted January 14, 2010 all u have to do is use a towel to dry the part where ur gonna put the apoxy and then apply it and put it back in the tank Quote Link to comment
GoBlue44 Posted January 14, 2010 yeah, apoxy can be a pain to use bc it likes to stick to your fingers more than the rock, but once it sets then you won't have to worry about your rocks falling. Quote Link to comment
chartreuseboots Posted January 14, 2010 love that scape. i bet that tank will be pretty sweet when it's done. Quote Link to comment
Dani3d Posted January 14, 2010 once you apply the apoxy, do you have to wait until it dry or you just put it in the water? How long does it take to cure? Quote Link to comment
GoBlue44 Posted January 14, 2010 make sure you get the apoxy thats meant for fish tanks. it sets under water. it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to set. just towel dry the part of the rock you are putting apoxy on, stick your rocks together using the apoxy and make sure they don't move around alot once you put them together. that should be enough to secure your rocks. ihatesears18 Posted January 14, 2010 if you don't like chemicals, use zip ties! Quote Link to comment
GoBlue44 Posted January 15, 2010 the apoxy that is meant just for coral placement are safe for tanks. Quote Link to comment
Dani3d Posted January 15, 2010 I bought the Talored Aquatics Coralline Encrusting Epoxy and the instructions says it can be cured underwater and it is reef safe. It is made especialy for corals and frags. It is the same color as coriline and should look like a spot of coraline once it is applied. Should be nice Quote Link to comment
GoBlue44 Posted January 15, 2010 that will work, it doesn't really matter what color it is, coraline will take it over no matter what. Quote Link to comment
RockinSmall Posted January 15, 2010 That looks too cool to put corals in! I did something similar with my rockwork. But once i started stocking it, you couldnt tell how uniquely i placed my rocks.. Quote Link to comment
Dani3d Posted January 16, 2010 Yes I understand what you mean about stocking coral over a nice rock. I plan on putting the coral carefully to keep sight of the rocks. Quote Link to comment
