too many nutrients? It's starting to grow everywhere! I have a sleeper goby that does stir up sand. It disappears at night with no light.

Thats cyanobacteria on your sand. It is photosynthetic which is why it would diminish without the light. It is a sign of too many organics in the water. I would recommend for you to do an extra water change and if you have a skimmer maybe wet skim for a while until it is no longer an issue.
