Thats an aweful rebuttal. Fish are only in those tanks for a shorter period than your "interim" period, on display for a week until someone buys it.

That's why its called a "holding tank"...

I still dont realize how you can tell the tang is happy...

My reasoning

You have a very high bioload (5 fish in one tank)

without frequent and or large water changes nitrates will rise

leather coral and shrimp do not like nitrates

thus if you were to skimp on WC your system would crash

I'm not suggesting its impossible but rather you have seriously reduced your margin of error when it comes to water quality

I'm just sayin' stay consistent with those WC

Also your tang says #### you for confining it to a bc 14

Hmmm. Didn't realize there was no language filter on the image comments. Very interesting...

Don't worry about the tang too much. It won't be in that tank very long, one way or another.

I think he thinks the Paracanthurus is happy because it is healthy looking, is active, and eats constantly. I guess in a way it might be. In the wild a Tang will have to swim miles each day and expend tons of energy to get food. In this 14g tank food is dropped right in front of it's nose. The Tang being a small juvenile works for and against it in this instance. For, in that it is small enough to not be too cramped for space. Against, in that all juvenile fish, especially surgeonfish have extremely high metabolisms and need to be fed constantly or will quickly starve. So is the Tang happy? Maybe for now. Will it be in 6 months or so if fed properly, probably not. Wild tangs can reach tremendous sizes and have a decent lifespan. I once saw a Yellow Tang that a hobbyist had that was almost 2 feet long. He had it for 17 years.

Wow this is getting interesting. But I agree, frequent water changes are crucial. Without them you are just inviting your tank to crash. Yes, I said "crash" and I don't live in India.

LOL I wish most people would take watch out for their kids as much as these guys watch out for the tangs...ever been to a mall? You know what I mean then.

The tank is gorgeous, with or w/o the tang.

I bought the tang on craiglists from Kietn23. He now lives happily in a 24 gallon tank.

its really funny how people want to "get back" at the tang police for nagging all the time. anyone recommending a bigger aquarium for that tang is just looking out for the best interest of the fish, which is what we all should be doing in this hobby.

just my opinion, but we have th ability to reason, yet we dont have the ability to listen to what experienced reefers tell us.

it shows a lack of respect for a beautiful animal, sorry. i do like your tank though, just not your stocking decisions

Every one has there own opinion thats why they have a tank and you have yours so you can set it up as you please. Hell I had a anenome and there are police on here for them as well. LOL I have a 29 gallon biocube and I did order me a tang as well. To each is own
