bikfas Posted January 25, 2009 I'm glad you guys seem to like it. I'm new at this...it's my first tank so be gentle. I slowed down water changes to once a month because my calcium was high and I started more fresh water top offs. Parameters seem to be normal now. So far the tank hasn't been stocked it's 20 months old and is basically a pile of live rock. Quote Link to comment
xbwolfx Posted January 25, 2009 20 months old and nothing but live rock? why exactly are you even worried about testing for calcium, then? Quote Link to comment
bikfas Posted January 25, 2009 I will be adding coral soon and I just want parameters to be normal when I do. Also the LFS told me my PH is low because my calcium is high? Quote Link to comment
ddelallata Posted January 25, 2009 wow! some newbies stock in one week...... other newbies stock after 20 months Quote Link to comment
Ando Posted January 25, 2009 That is sick! I bet water changes are fun haha! What did u hold it in the air with? Quote Link to comment
bikfas Posted January 25, 2009 The two tanks circulate together so I don't have to change water in the top only clean the glass and siphon detrius off the bottom of the tank. I have one cable looped from the attic down through the shelf then back up into the attic. It's very clean looking all the hardware is in the attic. I also had to fasten a board to the wall attached to the studs in the wall. Everything is routed and painted to match, again to make it look as clean as possible. Quote Link to comment
travisurfer Posted January 25, 2009 Wow, awesome stuff. You really should start stocking soon though. Quote Link to comment
bikfas Posted January 25, 2009 I plan to, are there any repercussions from waiting so long? Also, I had an outbreak of purple filamentous algae I've been trying to get rid of before adding coral. LFS never had the snails I wanted so I finally bought some online. They seem to be working. Quote Link to comment
StevieT Posted January 25, 2009 Very cool. No, there are no problems with waiting this long, just really weird that you took so long. Quote Link to comment
travisurfer Posted January 25, 2009 Waiting such an extended period of time is definitely a good thing- most people just don't have the patience to do so when a month will suffice. Quote Link to comment
bzphotog Posted January 25, 2009 got a CUC in there? that would just keep the tanks maintained... Quote Link to comment
bikfas Posted January 25, 2009 No, I at one time I thought about buying a tiger tail but wasn't sure if it was a good idea. Quote Link to comment
