warhol1 Posted November 19, 2008 Meet your worst nightmare. He will NEVER die... NEVER! Quote Link to comment
deputymiller68 Posted November 19, 2008 You could always keep it and see how big it will get... but I admit killing it would be best Quote Link to comment
scratch07 Posted November 19, 2008 whatever you do dont cut it or poke it in the tank. it will be the begining of the end. there is a new product aptasia x by red see. invest its only like 15 bucks Quote Link to comment
veshman Posted November 19, 2008 you could just pull out the rock while it's only on that one, just to play it safe? Quote Link to comment
scratch07 Posted November 19, 2008 lemon juice doesnt work and if you puncture it it will release spores and there will be more. you need to bind the oral disk. like joes juice or aptasia x. the later does a better job. i love reef tank wives tales and home remedies lol Quote Link to comment
reefgoby30 Posted November 19, 2008 it is NOT a rare coral that I have had some fish stores tell me and say 5 bucks each Quote Link to comment
el fabuloso Posted November 19, 2008 I like to see how much they can grow before I kill 'em. The bigger they are, the more fun they are to kill. Quote Link to comment
n0rk Posted November 19, 2008 I had one of these that was huge when I first got my LR.. let it grow, the stalk of it got to nearly as fat as a cigar.. used to pull bits of BS out of the water at random. Nice to watch, but a pain in the ass to get rid of. Quote Link to comment
Ando Posted November 19, 2008 since u dont have any corals yet you could take your rock out and soak it in water and melifix.. or you can try and get some peppermint shrimp when your tank is done cycleing... they usually eat the aptasia. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4615+11269&pcatid=11269 or just try and soak the rock in fresh water Quote Link to comment
metalhead311 Posted November 19, 2008 I thought I had 3 of them in my new 10g but its still cycling so since there wasn't anything else in the tank I was just gonna ignore it, but when I moved a few rocks around I saw them everywhere. Everything I've read says a couple won't hurt anything and a good CUC will take care of it, but I'm infested now. Kill them now with a treatment or at the very least don't disturb them at all. These guys are bad news. I shoulda killed mine the second I saw the first one. Quote Link to comment
allenspidey Posted November 19, 2008 I've seen these sold at a LFS before. Not in business anymore. Shocking. Quote Link to comment
Pickle010 Posted November 19, 2008 I've got one in my fuge that's a monster! I named it Stevie. Quote Link to comment
StevieT Posted November 19, 2008 mwwwwaaaaaaa you so funny, but honestly I am honored Quote Link to comment
chrisoppie Posted November 19, 2008 If it's on a small piece of rock with no other corals on it, I would pull the whole piece of rock out and let it dry. Reintroduce and keep an eye on it. essentially you would turn it in to base rock, but that’s better the watching a million of those thing pop up and have to nuke all your rock. Good luck Quote Link to comment
skimmerdude Posted November 19, 2008 I have had an eventual 100% kill rate (although some aiptasia require multiple attempts) by "feeding" the aptasia a kalkwasser slurrey. I don't know why more people don't use this method, just gently feed the aiptasia the slurey with the pumps off. Don't poke at it, causing it to retract into the rock. Quote Link to comment
RaddReef319 Posted November 19, 2008 Sell it on Ebay! Lol! (falls to ground*holds in intestines) If you let the aip go for to long you'll have 50 or 100 seriously. Its about time to glue that bad boy get some Loctite superglue Gel, the Gel its thicker and make sure to cover the ENTIRE thing not even a tentacle can be out and it will die inside the glue. Acro Posted November 19, 2008 Feeding the little buggers kalkwasser with an eyedropper worked for me also. They actually showed a feeding response by closing up on the kalk and dragging it inside when they closed. Kills them every time and costs next to nothing Quote Link to comment
