Starting to cure

Starting to cycle the system, will be putting a little more rock into this at the ends where the rock is now, and leaving the center area open. the sump is underneth with live sand, live rock, and Alge pieces.

I have a 50/50 10,000k, atinic mini flour. for lighting that I'm in the process of setting up as a wall mount light, hanging down over this.

It's not going to work very well.

Why won't it work ?? I am fairly new at this salt water stuff (11months), but let me know any info good or bad so I can work things out with this project.

looks like you will have problrems with gas exchange with such a small surface area, and if you have storng enough lighting for your photosynthetic animals to take up the slack of O2 production and CO2 removal you might run into temp control problmes. But then again these forums are FULL of "exp[erts" saying this and that wont work and they have been proven wrong time and time again. I say gop for rit keep maticulus notes , "we learn by doing"

Gas removal should I'm assuming should be taken care of with the sump/refuge system underneth. I know the tank itself is a tight system, but with a light load and the sump system....keeping my fingers crossed. Besides like you said.....they did bit a man on the moon by trying !

how would you work inside the tank? Like scarping the walls of algae, attaching frags, etc.

The only problem I see is cleaning the walls of algae when the tank matures. Like, how would you get light through the top if it's encrusted with coraline? In any case, it looks very cool. Good luck.

This is a 6 inch glass "y" fitting . The plumber at work are using this for a bio molecular lab building. The fitting itself is worth around 500 buck, and was not needed so I asked them if I could have it. They owed me some favours as I'm the general Foreman for the electrical on this job. I can get my hand in to move things around but yes it is tight getting it twisted to the left side.

if you're worried about gas exchange...add an airstone that might help...good luck...can't believe u built that thing yourself

this is very ambitious, and I'm liking what I see so far. The sump should provide plenty of ways to keep things healthy, and hopefully the magnet will be enough for cleaning. Interested in the progress of this one.
