I had a store-bought stand for the aquarium originally, but it did not allow enough access to the filtration equipment. I helped my aunt build a deck out of Ipe (Brazilian hardwood) about a year ago and she gave me all of the short pieces, which I think I put to good use here.

Good job Schwaguy. Hadn't thought of it before but the Ipe would make a great material for a stand, strong and very resistant to rot/water damage. Good choice, and Free as well. Win Win!

Thanks. The Ipe is great. This is actually the second stand I made out of it. The first one was for my 55 gal cichlid tank. I constructed it in the basement, and then had to call a friend in to help me move it to the third floor. That stuff weighs a ton.
