Pet-Lover Posted April 9, 2007 i know ring cowries are reef safe, they are awsome algae cleaners either way, once mine got sucked up by the filter intake and started getting pulled out of its shell and died... i started growing algae on the glass daily which he would usually eat... when that stuff retracts from his shell look at it and search up ring cowrie. if they are the same Its good. Caesar777 Posted April 9, 2007 All cowries are at least omnivorous, if not carnivorous. All the common ones on the market eat algae as well as soft corals, including colts, leathers, zoas, etc. Is the shell on that one, when it pulls back its mantle, plain white, white with a yellow spot or ring, or white/tan/gray with lots of black/brown speckling/spotting? Any of the aforementioned are absolutely NOT safe with soft corals. Their algae-grazing is what throws people off. (They forget that there are other omnivorous animals besides us!)
