Here is a collage of my new tank. The first pictures were taken on September 24th and the final ones were taken tonight.

I have had a freshwater tank for about 10 years now and I am making the switch to saltwater reef tank. This is also my first attempt at aquascaping.

Top (from left to right): unpacking new rock from LFS, Added LS, LR, and Saltwater, all cleared up and ready for aquascaping.

Middle (from left to right): Tank and Stand in place and ready to go, Final live rock layout, another angle final layout.

Bottom (from left to right): Top View, Front View, side view.

Awesome aquascaping in the middle picture! R u still cycling your tank? I just got min BC 8 gallon started on this past Friday. How are you doing your filtration?

Thanks Itchy!

The tank as far as I can tell is cycled. I am still curing the LR. It was not totally cured when i got it from my LFS. It has been 2 weeks and I am going to give it another week or so I don't want to rush things.

I had the normal spikes in the first week but for the last 5 days straight the Ammonia and Nitrite are at 0, Nitrate is at ~ 10-20ppm, Alkalinity is ~ 275, pH is 8.1, and the temp is holding at 79F. So I think the tank is probably ready whenever I am.

As for filtration everything is stock as is, with the BioBalls. I might get flamed for doing that but I spoke with two other local people who have had these tanks going since day one, as well as a few people from the LFS and they all said it is a personally choice. Since I did not have a cured LR I figured I would give the BioBalls a chance and I can always take some rumble and make the swap later if I need too.

The only mod I am going to do is the one in which you widen the opening between chambers 1 and 2. Right now I have rigged it with a zip tie so the filter media does not restrict the flow of water and cause chamber 3 to empty out too fast.

I work in a design related field and I don't want to modify what someone hopefully put a lot of thought into designing unless it's absolutely necessary.

Good Luck with your tank.

I love the rock work, but it looks a tad unstable. You might want to epoxy some of those rocks together to prevent avalanches.

Thanks. I have put some epoxy to hold the pieces in place. I bought all the rocks from my LFS. Big Al's in Tamarac, FL. www.bigalsusa.com
