icenine Posted November 28, 2005 Nope, not hydroids... I have some of them to compare to. Quote Link to comment
icenine Posted November 28, 2005 Actually Fant, I'm sorry. You may have pegged it. Thanks! Most of the hydroids I'd seen so far had at least some sort of tube... which lead to my intial response. Now, to figure out if I want to keep these around. Quote Link to comment
icenine Posted November 28, 2005 So, thanks to fant I've figured this one out. They are Hydroid Myrionema or pom pom hydroids. I've come across several types of hydroids in my tanks so far, and because they have not been much on an issue had done little research on them. I had no idea the variety of hydroids that existed... kinda fascinating really. I've uncovered some articles that show "back in the day" people were intentionally adding myrionema to their tanks and struggling to maintain populations of them. I can understand why, when colonies develop they can be rather nice looking. However these are going to be coming out of my pico so I won't be evaluating that first hand. This variety can become a problem in tanks with higher nutrient concentrations..... which the skimmerless, anemone and filter feeder pico these popped up in is for the most part.
