nheuer Posted November 12, 2005 Hey Great reef!!! I am going to be getting a 12g Dx Cube and was wondering if you could give me a list of what corals and plants you have and how much LR did you use? Thanks Nick Quote Link to comment
volkan Posted November 12, 2005 don't you think 5 fishes a bit too much for 12g? Quote Link to comment
Gili Posted November 13, 2005 5 fishies is ok, depending on size, temperament etc. Is this tank modded or do you have sps's growing in your tank?? The reason why i ask is cos i have a small SPS that hitchhiked on a piece of living rock that seems to be thriving [coloured up and almost 50% bigger in about 6-7weeks... Im considering trying an sps coral... I have stock lighting.. Quote Link to comment
Reefwick Posted November 13, 2005 5 fish in a 12 gallon is not okay. That's just irresponsible. If you do any research on your livestock or ask anybody who knows what they are doing will tell you 5 fish in a 12 gallon is just plain dumb. Not to mention it's probably around 9 gallons after displacement of LR etc... This tank is 1 month old and has all that coral and 5 fish, a disaster waiting to happen. I can't even imagine it being done cycling yet. Good luck, your gonna need it. Quote Link to comment
ruzzell Posted November 13, 2005 thanks for the comments to answer a few questions here we go i have 65 watts of light and also 11 watts for the refugem at rear The five gobies combined total length is 5 inches how could this be to much stock !!! i have some sps which are spreading onto the rocks any other comments appreicated Quote Link to comment
Reefwick Posted November 14, 2005 I don't know where you got the idea that total fish length has any bearing on your situation. You do not have enough LR or total water volume to sustain that bio-load. Let's not forget it's only 1 month old. There has never been a success story that i've come across that someone has added that much livestock in 1 month and it didn't crash. I can't believe that the cycle is even over. Bottom line is that 5 fish in lets say 10 gallons of water is crazy. thats 2 gallons for every fish!!! I'm sorry but this is the most irresponsible, no research tank if ever seen put together. ruzzell Posted November 14, 2005 reefwick your comments do not contain any information relevent to my tank firstly the tank was started from my previous tank so no cycling was needed live rock, live sand, mature water!!!! 12 kilos of live rock is more than enough As for stock levels five tiny gobies could never produce more waste than a pair of clowns which seems to be the norm in a 12g cube So reefwick always ask questions before you comment to save your embarasment Quote Link to comment
Reefwick Posted November 14, 2005 Embarasment? I don't care how established the stuff was before you put it in there it is still a 1 month old tank. To have that much livestock that soon is very irresponsible. What information are you looking for anyways? You posted a picture of a overstock 1 month old nano-cube. You didn't ask for relevant information or any information for that matter. You ask for alot of criticism wheather you knew it or not. I'm not embarassed in the least bit. Just another classic example of no patience, research or care of inhabitants. I will apologize if I am wrong about this part, but isn't that a monti cap in there on the left. If it is, 65 watts of PC lighting isn't even in the ballpark of ample light to keep such a coral. Quote Link to comment
scarf_ace1981 Posted November 30, 2005 with all due respect i think ruzzell is being treated unfairly. some may not agree with what he has done. i think time will tell if he has made any mistakes and he will learn from these mistakes. if he decides to challenge the norm than that's on him(his money, his tank and inhabitants). i'd like to hear from one person who hasn't made a single error throughout their whole reef keeping experienced years. whether that error be in lighting, stocking of fish and coral, equipment, etc. wish you all the best with your tank. it looks great. Bozu Posted December 21, 2005 hey reefwick i'll give you a list of lfs in my area that keep tangs in little 5 inch holding tanks for months at a time. you'd have fun chewing those guys out! btw 5 little gobies is ok IMO i cant even see them in the pic except for the clown goby. NanoReefer411 Posted July 25, 2006 Why do people have to be so mean sometimes? Jeez. Be nice about telling him what he might need to change. I am sure not everyone has all the answers. We are not God. Sheesh. I get tired of people yelling at others just because they might have done something that isn't up to code. Tell them in a nice way. Quote Link to comment
