I was woundering if anyone could give me tips on the setup of one, like, -Minimum Lighting required to grow mainly softies( zoas and palys ) -Flow needed -filteration -substrate? -Clean up crew -maintenance Please feel free to add any other comments or tips. Thanks, BigRay Link to comment
Mr. Fosi
Lighting: What size tank are you thinking? Flow: Moderate flow, say 15-35x volume/hr. Filtration: No real filtration needed, but a refugium and/or skimmer might not be a bad idea. Substrate: Not crushed coral. Cleanup crew: Mainly snails (astrea, nassarius, cerith) maybe a couple dwarf blue leg hermits or a shrimp. Maintenance: Waterchanges & frequent top offs. Other considerations: Keep the temp and pH stable. Link to comment
BigRay
WOW thanks for the quick response, The tank i'm setting up is just a 10g. Does Live sand have to be used? Link to comment
Mr. Fosi
LS does not need to be used. On a 10g I would go with anything between 40W PC to 150W of MH. Link to comment
BigRay
Great! Thanks Mr. Fosi ! Anyone else? BigRay Link to comment
firefishbrain
you could do 70w mh, that's seems like it's in the middle of what mr. fosi said, intense, but not over kill, but if you plan on someday doing the other stuff, lps or even some sps, invest in the 150 just cz you'll want to.
