My Hammer was beating the crap outta my colt coral so I fragged it, and boy was it easy. Here is what I did.

1. Set-up workstation: Tub with eggcrate on top, dremel with cut-off tool, tall tupperware filled with tank water. 2 inch long piece of PVC.

2. Take the hammer out of tank and place in tupperware with tank water. Shake it so it closes almost all the way and slimes up real bad. After 2 minutes take it out and set it on eggcrate.

3. Make incision below the tissue line, and it cuts like butter.

4. Take boths sections back to tank and put the mother back in same spot and put baby in PVC on sandbed. It will heal and open up the same day.

5. Feel good about yourself.

It was good, and super easy.

Is a plate hammer of of the maze type ones?

I don't have any, but any info is GREAT!

Yes, to both of your questions.

This is a long process, weeks, not minutes.

1) find mouths on plate hammer

2) Place a wide rubber band between mouths of said coral

3) allow flesh to die off under rubber band, and time to heal

Note, it will take a while for the hammer to fully expand when the band/s are on, but it will eventually get used to it.

Also, keep water param's excellent, as this is VERY stressful to the coral.

Another thing, once it does begin to expand, feed it. This will encourage it to expand more, and help it heal.

4) once the flesh has died, and the coral healed(4 to 8 weeks depending) remove band/s

5) Dremmel between the flesh

6) done
