hray
This will sound dumb, but I can't figure out how to search on it. Mea culpa... In my previous 40 gallon reef tank, I had some sort of screen-thing over the intake on the powerhead, to keep critters from becoming marine hamburger. In looking at online sources for Microjet power heads, I can't see that the things com with such protection. Do they? If not, what do you use? Or is this just a source of food for your corals...:*( TIA, Hray in VA Link to comment
tinyreef
bump it depends on what you're trying to protect. if you have anemones the pre-filter is a must. otherwise it's another maintenance chore imo. i just use hob's for filtering large particles and breaking surface tension. hth Link to comment
hray
I was wondering about cleaner shrimp, for example; will they stay away from the intake? I agree, prefilters are a pain...the less maintenance, the better. Link to comment
Chamkeeper
I have a Mini-Jet 404 in my tank, my cleaner shrimp climbs all over it w/o any problem. Mine just points straight, so the slotted cover that covers the intake and adjusts flow is still on it. I have not had any problems with it. Link to comment
