ReefApprentice
Ultimate Coral Propagation The How-To Frag Guide I was thinking how much of a pain it is to try and find info on fragging, when it could all be in one place. So hopefully this thread can help organize some of the information. Include: 1) Common name, scientific name 2) Reason for propagation (fun, sales, overgrowth) 3) Tools needed 4) Details on actual propagation technique 5) What is it mounted to, if anything? 6) Overall consensus and several week report. 7) Difficulty Rating 1-10 (1 for noobs, 10 for experts) Hopefully this will help people and answer some of their questions. Remember, the more the better. Link to comment
ReefApprentice
Okay, since no one else will respond I will. 1) Colt Coral, Alcyonium Spp. 2) Overgrowth 3) Scissors, lr rubble, plastic toothpick, epoxy putty 4) Snip the coral where you want to frag it, epoxy the toothpick upsidedown on the rock, slide coral over it, place a small piece of epoxy so it can't slide off, place in low-current area. 5) Rubble 6) Very difficult, none survived. The coral is extremely hard to hold because it is so slippery. Some may have lived but maybe be in the back, because they disappeared. 7) Rating of 8 Link to comment
The Propagator
Its basicly "rinse and repeat" for all softies and polyps, as well as lps, and sps. There are so many different variations and methods out there that it will be impossible to provide a satisfying method for every one to go by. Link to comment
