stevejr
Does anyone know if I can use regular aquarium gravel in a fish only saltwater setup? I have a 40 gallon breeder tank that I'd like to setup for my lionfish who is outgrowing his tank and I have a lot of unused noncolored gravel that I'd like to use as substrate would this work? reefan
It would work. It just would not do as much for your tank. Link to comment
Dave ESPI
PH buffering is what substrate is for becides bacterial colonies and worms to live in. ONE of my customers INSISTED on black onyx as his substrate. it looks great, and I put 40 #s of aragonite in his sump. works well. HTH. Link to comment
stevejr
Since I won't have any argonite in this tank does anyone have any suggestions on what to use for PH buffering? Link to comment
harbingerofthefish
they make a PH 8.2 dosing chemical thingy. I don't know the brand right off, but most if not all LFS carry it. Link to comment
coralreeferkim
GO VIKES GO!!!! What are you thinking?? Dump the gravel, go with aragonite, it won't cost that much!!! pH, pH, pH, it's your buffer!!! Link to comment
stevejr
too late I already set the tank up the a few days ago. For better of worse I'm going with gravel. This tank is going to be fish only anyway, nothing more. Link to comment
