How do I dose Kalk and what Brand do you recommend?

I know this has been asked before but I just want to get the most up-to-date feedback regarding dosing Kalk and what brand you guys recommend.

 

 

Basically, I am a newbie to reef-keeping, and I want to kno how I go about dosing kalk.

 

And which brand do you guys recommend?

 

 

 

I plan on keeping SPS and Ricordea Mushrooms in my 10-gallon nano. Is Kalk all I need to keep these thriving or do they need to be fed something else?

10 gallon AGA

12 lbs. fiji live rock

25 lbs. aragonite sand

Prizm Skimmer

70W MH + 1x36W Actinic 03

I have used Kent Marine Kalk with very good success. It is important that you dose Kalk very slowly, especially with a small tank. Follow the directions on the container and buy yourself a plastic doser at your LFS. Buy a big enough one to handle all of your evaporation top off.

 

If you do weekly 10% water changes with a quality salt you shouldn't have to add any other supps. In addition to general coral growth, I use Kalk b/c it helps to keep your PH high and indirectly helps keep your phosphates in check. It also promotes coraline growth which over time prevents the growth of certain algae.
