I lived in los angeles california for 18 years, but i managed never to go to the aquarium of the pacific in long beach. this place is incredible, for a 30 minute drive it was amazing. its no sea world but for something local it is really worth the trip. i managed to take some photos with my camera phone (i wasnt expecting to go there so i didnt take my digital camera). some of the pictures are just really poor in quality and i couldnt make out the pictures so i just didnt post them. but here are some of the cool ones. there were some fish that i have never seen before and there were some that i see everyday but only a fraction of the size. these fish at the AOP were mezmerizingly massive. i saw the most beautiful crocea clam with a huge colony of mushroom growth on it. the mushrooms were mint green with bright pink dots. these had to be the most beautiful mushrooms i have ever seen IMO. the clams were as big as basket balls and the mushrooms on it were the size of CD's. sorry i couldnt take picturs of the clams, the lights were just to damn bright in that tank. just unbelievable. ENJOY

Yea been there myself too. I actually go to the area for the shoreline and not the aquarium. The aquarium is nice but it's overpriced imho and pretty much just a big tourist spot. I was actually disappointed when I first went there as I expected so much more from what everyone says about it. If you got the time, I suggest checking out the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's not local and it's quite a drive, but it sure beats AoP and is a better experience. Monterey Bay is a tourist spot itself but its aquarium is unique imo and it sure is a great place for a lil roadtrip/vacation w/ the wife or gf whichever one(s) you have or may want to take along. :P

awesome pictures btw, did you happen to see the octopus? drive down to cabrillo and check out their aquarium when u have time (not the greatest but its free), and check out their lobsters. Huge!

$10 would be a good price $20 is a bit much. But their year pass for $40 is great. But I think I'll stick with the divers get in free day once a year :D

I went a while back when it first opened and was not at all impressed, especially for the price. They didn't have any interesting (or colorful) marine fish. But, I have heard they have made great improvements since then. The jellyfish are cool!

well im still a noob at this hobby, its only been a year and the only places i have seen an marine aquarium was at mirage hotel and casino, Sea World, and AoP. so for something local i really enjoyed AoP. But it is a little too pricey. besides the fact that the marine hobby is a very pricey hobby. they should give us nano reefers a nano discount.

The reef tank at AoP is sick! I looked at it for several hours.

...at mirage hotel and casino...
Ugh, that place makes me vomit... you were in Las Vegas and didn't go to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay?

Best idea I've heard yet!
