me03
I'm running a marineland 280 hob. I was told by my lfs to go ahead and run it with the activated carbon. My question is this: does activated carbon filters remove the necessary trace elements? Link to comment
Crakeur
never listen to the lfs. they generally don't know squat. run it without the filter for added circulation. Link to comment
me03
What about replacing it with bio balls for extra biological filtration? I've also considered adding a piece of live rock, but that would require a light and redesign of my hood. Link to comment
Crakeur
no need for bioballs either. if anything, I would add some more live sand. some people use those carbon pouches, others don't. Personally, I don't like them as they have always caused me more trouble than any good they have done. Just do a water change of about one gallon a week and you should be fine. Link to comment
