Diodogorgia and Lighting

I am reading my Julian Sprung CORALS book and on page 189 Julian states that the Diodogorgia does not feed off of photosynthesis, and his lighting needs scale from 1-10 is at a 1. Does this mean that these can survive without light, can survive with light but not required, or will do best under darker conditions?

Diodogorgia do not host zooxanthellae so they have no need for light and are capable of living in complete darkness. Light won't hurt them, but it won't do them any good either.

Just don't foget about the other end of the stick. What they miss from photosynthetic energy, they must make up for by eating. I had one of these for a while and fed it a lot, but one day it just refused to open its polyps. They never opened again and it slowly withered away.

I would consider looking for one of the photosynthetic species instead. If you're dead set on Diodogorgia, then do some searching on dietary requirements. There are a few people who have kept them for quite a while.
