fifty50
5gal tank. 28/32W 50/50 bulb (10,000K/actinic). two clown fish. currently having a battle with cyano. increased water flow and cutting back on feedings, hopefully that will do the trick. comments are welcome!!! other images can be found here. http://pics.thehalfasian.com/nanoReef/feb14/ Link to comment
natrate
I like the aqua-scaping. What kind of substrate is that? Link to comment
fifty50
I like the aqua-scaping. What kind of substrate is that? it's just coraline. used that instead of regular sand. it's ok, kinda wish i went w/ regular sand, look wise. Link to comment
kinetic
coraline? that's the purple stuff growing on the rock. yours looks like coral rubble. I'd definately have gone with a oolite white sand. looks interesting so far =) Link to comment
fluidimagery
Crushed coral you mean? I would switch out with sand. Crushed Coral is very porous as a substrate and will trap detritus causing issues down the road. You're also not going to be able to support 2 clowns in a 5 gal for very long. Like the rock work though. Good Luck Link to comment

natrate
my mistake. it's basically just crushed coral. I'd get rid of that crushed coral before you go any farther. Get some Arg-Alive sand and you'll be much happier in the long run. Put about 1 inch of sand in the bottom. Link to comment

Caesar777
I inherited an 11-gallon nano with two percula clowns from someone, and even that seemed like a tight fit. You've got cyano problems for a reason. Not just the overstocking, and probably overfeeding--feed one tiny bit of frozen food per day or every other day--but the detritus-trap of a substratum. Replace with a thin layer of sand, as said. Just siphon it out; use a regular hose, no attachment, to suck the gravel right out. Won't stir anything up (which would create more cyano or a bacterial bloom). Link to comment
