Mnesarchus
My candycane coral (all three polyps on one branch) are splitting, either into two or three new polyps. Pics are bad quality, but I'll take more later. Am I mistaken? Link to comment
sjpresley
No, you are not, when multiple mouths develope in a single head, it will eventually split into that number of heads. However that doesn't look like Caulastrea furcata (candy cane), but some other Caulastrea which is usually just referred to as trumpet coral. This species is much more hardy and grows more quickly. chvynva916
Is that the only way they reproduce asexually? My caulestra sp seems to have new heads growing from the tissue lower on the skeleton? Link to comment
Gilman
Ours have split many times in the past 8 months. Very cool how they grow new mouths and split and GROW! Back when we first got it, I remember chanting SPLIT SPLIT SPLIT in the NR chatroom. It must work since our Candy Coral started out as 3 polyps and now it has more than a dozen. Gil Link to comment
