JimmyG
I have a nikon D50 digital slr camera and would like to be able to take macro shots of my coral. I told them what I wanted to do and they sold me a 70-300mm and it doesnt seem to be the right lens. Any advice? Link to comment

Reefer Addict
Nikon was running a rebate on this lens last month. You should check to see if it is still there... Link to comment

JimmyG
What is the 70-300mm lens made for? It doesnt seem to be any better than my digital elf, other than it brings images much closer, but it doesent zoom any better than my 300$ camera. If I try to take a picture of my tankI have to be like 4 feet away or it wont even focus manual or auto. Link to comment
Pili
its more of a telephoto lens that happens to have a decent magnification ratio which makes it better than regular lenses for macro photography. Ideally you want a lens with a magnification ratio of 1:1 which means what you see in the view finder is actual size. The 70-300, i believe has a ratio of 1:4. HTH Link to comment
