Not sure

I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not but can someone tell me what this is and what I can do about it? It is not the best pic but I assume its red algae. The last few days when I come home from work the sand has a little pinkish tint to it in places.

By 9:00 it has gotten alot darker red. I have been stirring the sand up a bit and that seems to cover it up but the next day its back. Ive searched other threads but have not seen (or just missed) posts pertaining to this.

Thank you, any help would be nice.

It looks like the start of some red cyanobacteria, or "red slime".

It is caused by too much nutrients in the water, high nitrates, high phosphates, not enough current, not enough light, not enough oxygen. There is more info on this board in links provided above, as well as links in the links. I'm pretty sure those links have links as well. So, here are some links to the third power for your personal battle with that damned slime.;)
