3g JBJ Picotope and Custom Top

Hello

 

I am thinking about the new JBJ Picotope and making a custom top out of glass for it. One question I do have is can the light still be effective shining thru the glass or does it need to be open where the light shines. Also does anyone know when these will be out so I can see a better picture of one.

You can put glass, plastic, plexiglass, etc on your tank to block the water from the light. Just make sure, if you use a light that gets very hot, to leave proper space between that and the plastic or plexiglass or it could melt. With glass, you wouldn't have that problem, but you would have problems with heat.

Thanks for the info. The JBJ PICOTOPE has a raised light with remote ballast so I do not think their will beissues with the heat. Also it is only a 9w 50/50 lamp. Do you think that will have anyproblems going thru the glass?

I don't think 9w is enough for anything. Also, note that they don't say Actinic. They call it "blue". I'd get a better light. At least 18w.
