Chief Brody
I am thinking about adding additional lights to my Eclipse 2 hood. I foudn this link: http://saltaquarium.about.com/gi/dynamic/o...Freflector.html for a DIY project using aluminum flashing as the mount for the lights. Would the flashing be "safe" in a saltwater enviro? Link to comment
tgrupert
you would be much better off replacing the current flourescent bulbs with two CF and a reflector. would make MUCH more of a difference. plus it would be sealed up. and you wouldn't have to worry about it bing reef safe. AlsoI think the electricity would be a tad more dangerous than aluminum. Link to comment
LiQuiD
Yes, like the electricity, the reflector is above the water not in it. I think most reflectors are made out of aluminum anyway, aren't they? Link to comment
tgrupert
all the good ones. or at least the expensive ones. Link to comment
Chief Brody
yes, you are right about the elcetricity thing. At the moment, my hood is already retrofitted wiht the CSL 32w Smartlamp. That lamp, which does not have mositure resistant end caps, is housed inside the protective lighting shell. The CSl 32w Supernova does have protective moisture resistant end caps and is presently hanging over open water on my 10. I guess i will bolt the fixture to the second hood, and shield it somehow with a cover. Link to comment
tgrupert
you can always use silicon and peal it off when you need to. IMO it's a good idea to smother silicon over all electrical conections on DIY jobs. it might even be a good idea to put a bead of silicon around outlets i you want to get crazy about safety.
