I thinking about making or getting a sump for my 29gl reef/fish.

I dont know much about them & was wondering if a bakpak skimmer could be used as a overflow or any other way to avoid having to get a overflow?

thx

At first I thought no you can't, but the more I think about it perhaps you can, if you have the surface skimmer attachment. It wouldn't be easy but I think you could insert a U-tube from the surface skimmer attachment to the skimmer body. Drill a hole in the bottom of the skimmer body for a bulkhead fitting to run to the sump. You would have to adjust the height of the surface skimmer so the water level in the tank is where you want it. Also you would have to measure how many gallons of water per hour it will handle in order to match a return pump.

This said personally I think it would be easier and safer to invest in a good OF box and U-tube.
