On/Off Light...

Apart from the switch on the ballast, isn't there any way to turn off the lights, or have separate switches for them so it isn't super bright then pitch black ¿

That's a whole different monkey! You'd have to make some major mods. Just go with a simple timer. go 8-12 hours. I leave some time with the lights off during the day so my tank doesn't go from PCs to Moonlights(night) in one switch. I let the daylight in the room be my dusk.

With the stock lighting, there is no way to turn one bulb on before the other one. Now if you add more lighting to the tank, you can then run those on a seperate timer.
