Satchmo
You got it- polyurethane (however that's spelled). Use a few coats. If you built your own hood, it's also a good idea to caulk the seams and corners so water can't work its way into those joints. I used the bathroom stuff called DAP. Oh, and the skimmer thing, yeah that's fine. Link to comment
cliffrouse11baseball
Can thompsons water seal be used to waterproof the wood??? Link to comment
ross76053
DO NOT use Thompson's. Although it is MY last name, it gets really bad reviews from Consumer Reports. Use "Varathane" - it's the best for marine applications. And as Satch mentioned - use several coats - like a minimum of four. Link to comment
reefphreak
I just finished my stand for my 29 and i finished it with one coat of stain and 4 coats of Minwax Hellmsman spray urethane.... I think it should last pretty well... The Hellmsman is for indoor and outdoor use so it is a little more durable than basic urethane.... Good luck buddy.... Link to comment
