BytheSea
What type algae are these?... How do you get rid of these? This type grows in thick green/brown patches on the backwall only. This one grows in long reddish/brown strands on the sand only. Link to comment
Caesar777
Not sur eon the first--something bad, obviously--but the second is cyanobacteria. Judging by both these algaes, it appears that you're vastly overfeeding your tank. Also replace old bulbs--6 months for fluo of any type, and a year or so for halides. Link to comment
BytheSea
I can say for sure that I'm not over feeding. I only feed a figernail scraping from the Cyclop-Eeze frozen bar. I was using Kent's additives until I found out they where not needed. Could that have caused the algae? The bulb is a brand new 50/50 power compact. The tank has been setup for 2 months now. Is it not normal for new tanks to algae issues. Just curious...How can you say it is something bad if you don't know the type of algae the first one is. Any ideas of how to control it or get rid of it? Link to comment

BytheSea
I have vacummed it out, but it comes back between water changes. I do have one fish. For cleanup crew I have 2 blue leg hermits, 3 bumble bee snails & 2 nassarius snails. What else would you suggest? Link to comment
