In my limited experience, healthy live rock, with no dead spots eats nitrates like crazy.

 

A properly stocked and mature LR setup really shouldn't have any nitrates (unless there's a reason/problem like overstocking/overfeeding/dead/etc).

live rock, a b*tchin skimmer, and chaeto works for me. 2-3 lbs per gallon of live rock, 1" of live sand, euro-reef 6-2+ = no nitrate in my tank :)

lol, that was a discussion starter, since we covered everything before that, not a cry for help :)
