diverrk Posted September 8, 2005 Share Posted September 8, 2005 Ok, like overnight I have some brown algae on the sand and some on the plastic back of the tank. what's the best remedy for this. It's a 6gal I have one 3/4 clown in the tank with a peppermint shrimp. Link to comment

doncb Posted September 10, 2005 Share Posted September 10, 2005 Make sure you use RO/DI or Distilled water for top-offs and for mixing your SW. Phosphates can be a cause. Also, how long has your tank been set up? Brown algae is a normal part of the cycle. It can be blown off & sucked up too. Snails are a good idea too. Next you'll have hair algae! Fun! Link to comment

ereefer Posted September 11, 2005 Share Posted September 11, 2005 and then green!!! j/k I used tap water and instant ocean in my 90 gal and I had a new diatom(brown algae) bloom every two weeks. If you must use tap water, buy a filter bag and use PHOSGUARD. It works wonders. Now I spend the 5 bucks every two weeks and buy RO saltwater. Link to comment
