Maeda
It only comes out during lights on. It dissapears into the rock at lights out. It's always in the same spot. It's about the size of a nickel. What is this? Link to comment
Caesar777
Ahh, really hard to tell. Can you try to get a better pic? Link to comment
Reef_Mad_Man
A better pic is defiantely needed, but in a pich I would say feather duster? Link to comment
Maeda
OK I turned the rock around for a better photo. It's not concave like I assumed earlier. It looks more like a weird flat topped mushroom (not the coral the kind you eat). EDIT: Updated the pic for a better one. Link to comment
Caesar777
Odd. Still not enough detail, though. :/ Link to comment
Maeda
Trying! but my camera won't focus any closer. I'll try and borrow an SLR. N/M I found the manual focus on this thing. Link to comment
winniebagel
Hrmm, I'm venturing to say that could be a bleached mushroom. I dunno if it could be a shadow or something but from the most recent pic, it looks like there's still some zooxanthellae left from the 10-12 o'clock region (if you look at the picture like a clock). Caesar777
Kinda what I was thinking with the second pic. When poked, does it retract quickly, or slowly, or not at all? Link to comment
reef n ale
Weird. Does it disappear completely into the rock, or can you still see some of it? Can you see how it's attached? Rob Link to comment
Maeda
BRB. Commence POKING! Link to comment
Maeda
OK nothing happened. I swear it looks like its attached by a stalk in the middle of a worm like thing..... but the worm like thing is MUCH thinner and smaller then the flower/mushroom part. Link to comment
Caesar777
Squishy, right? I'll bet it's a mushroom. Any self-respecting worm would retract. Link to comment
Maeda
Cool free softies! It's weird how its ghostly white though.... Link to comment
winniebagel
give it a decent amount of light (just not direct MH) and it'll surely bounce back. Link to comment
Caesar777
Yup, bleached. With time, the color will come back. I'll guess purplish with green/blue tinges or brownish with green/blue tinges, but since it's non-bumpy, I'll bet it'll be the former. Link to comment
reefin300
yeah looks like a striped shroom Link to comment
Maeda
I'll take bets. Blue Purple Pink I've got a SMALL pink one next to it I found. Link to comment
Caesar777
Pink is a bleached red, 90% likely. (That's an exact figure. ) Link to comment
Maeda
Thanks guys and gals. ^_^ Link to comment
Maeda
Wait a second. Do mushrooms retract at night? Link to comment
Caesar777
Generally, somewhat. Some retract completely, some just "sort of". The thing's squishy like a gummy bear, right? Link to comment
Maeda
Yah. It just acts different from the purple mush i just got... Link to comment
