Hood questions

I was thinking of making a 24" hood for a nano-reef that has one 175 watt metal halide and 2 florencent tubes. It comes with the reflector and equipment my question is if a build a custon hood what material would be best i was thinking wood but wouldent that burn from all the heat?

Just don't mount your reflector directly to the hood... You're not gonna catch it on fire but it would be best to have some spacers or standoffs mounted between the surface of the wood and the reflector. You could use washers or tubing, like aluminum tubing you get at the hardware store, over the screws. Put about a half to one inch space between the two, you'll be fine.
